Dr. Tracey Severns

Analyzing with purpose With the Educators Learner with Positive Results

Dr. Tracey Severns has dedicated her career to the betterment of students, teachers and administrators. She has served as a paraprofessional, special education teacher, vice principal, principal, superintendent, adjunct professor, director of student performance and the Chief Academic Officer for the NJDOE. In 2018, she joined Rutgers Graduate School of Education’s Center for Effective School Practices as their Leadership and Learning Strategist and became the host of DisruptEd TV, a program committed to conversations about education that challenge the status quo. Dr. Severns has a B.S. in Psychology, a M.A.T. in Teaching, and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision.

Dr. Severns is a nationally recognized presenter who has provided professional development on the State Standards, State Assessments, instructional leadership, data analysis, special education, student engagement strategies, and school improvement on the state and national levels. In 2010, Dr. Severns was selected as one of eight principals to represent the United States in Brazil. In 2011, she was selected as New Jersey’s Visionary Principal of the Year and was named a National Distinguished Principal.

In 2012, her school won the National School Change Award, one of only six schools in the United States to receive this distinguished honor. In 2014, Dr. Severns was named Educator of the Year by the Peace Islands Institute and was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Public Service from Georgian Court University. Currently, Dr. Severns is providing support and consultation services for schools, districts and state agencies throughout the United States.

Set and Achieve District/School Goals:

Dr. Severns is a nationally recognized presenter who has provided professional development on the State Standards, State Assessments, instructional leadership, data analysis, special education, student engagement strategies, and school improvement on the state and national levels. Through her attendees will be able to:

● Translating Data to make gains for All Students
● Align the Core Standards with students needs
● Create engaging lessons for students but still setting national levels

Using high-impact practices to accelerate learning and Instructional Leadership:

Dr. Severns has joined Rutgers Graduate School of Education’s Center for Effective School Practices as their Leadership and Learning Strategist and became the host of Disrupt Ed TV, a program committed to conversations about education that challenge the status quo. She will help explain the development of creating practices that:

● Determine the creation of a schedule necessary for planning time for staff members.
● Revising basic classes and honor classes that impact growth for both the individual student and school environment
● Developing common assessments, instituting a diagnostic/prescriptive approach to test preparation and engaging teachers in the analysis of performance data
